WOMEN'S SOCCER WINS SECOND-STRAIGHT AT NYACK, 1-0

Box Score vs. Nyack - September 14, 2011

NYACK, N.Y. (Sept. 14, 2011) - Sophomore midfielder/forward Allison Sloper (Williston Park, N.Y.) earned the deciding and eventual game-winning goal in the 36th-minute on Wednesday, as the Molloy College women's soccer team notched its second-straight shutout, a 1-0 win against Nyack College in a non-conference clash at Moseley Field in Nyack, N.Y. As a result, the Lions, who outshot the hosts by a 17-5 count, improved to an overall record of 2-2 on the young camoaign.

During the goal-scoring play, junior back/midfielder Brittany Bauer (Hicksville, N.Y.) put a shot off of the hands of freshman netminder Maddy Barbarino (Staten Island, N.Y.). Sloper then charged into the box, and punched the rebound past a diving Barbarino for a 1-0 advantage. Nyack (1-4) managed just one shot on goal in the opening stanza, an attempt by sophomore Meghan Gore (Elizabethtown, Pa.) that was stonewalled by freshman goalie Nicole DellaPorta (West Babylon, N.Y.).

Sloper stayed hot in the latter half, giving the Lions a chance to add insurance. She recorded four shots, one of which hit the post, while the other sailed just high of the crossbar. Molloy, which sported a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks, also got shots on net from senior midfielder Nicole Reverberi (Massapequa, N.Y.) and junior forward Nicole Valentine (Massapequa, N.Y.).

Between the pipes, DellaPorta turned aside two shots. Her counterpart, Barbarino, had a game-best six saves. Sloper posted six shots for the Lions. Valentine and Reverberi added three apiece. Freshman Jen Martino (East Patchogue, N.Y.) added a pair of shots for the hosts.

Head Coach Danny Longo and his team is back in action on Saturday (Sept. 17) when Molloy starts up East Coast Conference action at home against ECC rival Dowling College. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
