VALENTINE LANDS ECC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Sept. 26, 2011) - After lifting her team to a pair of one-goal wins, Molloy College junior forward Nicole Valentine (Massapequa, N.Y.) has been dubbed as the East Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week for women's soccer, the league announced on Monday afternoon. Valentine served as the Lions' leading point-getter during the past two-game burst, checking in seven points on three goals, one of which was a game-winner, and one assist.
During a 3-2 comeback victory against Post University on Monday, Valentine posted a goal and an assist. The goal, which was scored with just 7:47 left in a tie game, proved to be the eventual game-winner for Molloy. Then, on Saturday, she recorded a game-high two goals in a 3-2 win over ECC foe New York Institute of Technology. The first tally was the opening score of the match, while the other was the equalizer in the second half with 9:09 remaining in regulation.
For the 2011 season, Valentine is currently the leading scorer for the maroon and white with nine points on four goals and an assist. She has also raked 26 shots (8 SOG), and taken one corner kick. In the ECC statistical leaderboard, Valentine ranks in second in shots and shots per game (3.71), third in points per game (1.29), goals and goals per game (0.57) and fourth in points.
Molloy, along with Valentine, is back in action on Tuesday (Sept. 27) when it hosts Lock Haven University to start a two-game homestand at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex in Rockville Centre, N.Y. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
