ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Sept. 7, 2009) - The Molloy College women's soccer team saw its first goals of the 2009 season scored in a 3-2 overtime loss against Chestnut Hill College on Monday afternoon at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex in Rockville Centre, N.Y. Junior midfielder Tara Morey (Pittsgrove, N.J.) put the game-winning tally in the left corner of the net from 15 yards out with 1:44 left in overtime to seal the Griffins' victory. Freshman forward Amanda Botbyl (Mays Landing, N.J.) was credited with the assist on the play.
Chestnut Hill (2-2) jumped on the scoreboard early as junior forward Lauren Riiff (Clementon, N.J.) recorded an unassisted tally from six yards out with 7:13 elapsed in the first half. The defense held off Chestnut Hill's scorers for the remainder of the stanza, as the two teams went into halftime with the Griffins leading 1-0.
Molloy (0-4) came out firing on all cylinders in the second half as sophomore forward Ashley Kilcommons (Baldwin, N.Y.) notched the equalizer a mere 21 seconds in. Her unassisted shot went past Chestnut Hill freshman goalkeeper Kelsey Feret (Burlington, N.J.), and into the lower left corner of the netting. Riiff put the Griffins ahead when she registered her second goal of the game on a breakaway in the 70th-minute on a feed from Morey.
The Lions showed tremendous fight as they tied up the game once again. Senior forward Paula Sanelli (Medford, N.Y.) sent a through ball to freshman defender Alyssa Faller (Floral Park, N.Y.), who put it in the left corner from 10 yards out to deadlock the score at 2-all. The marker came in the 84th-minute. The last six minutes on the scoreboard elapsed with no other goals scored sending the contest into the 10-minute overtime session.
Graduate netminder Christina Aquilon (Whitestone, N.Y.) tied her season-high mark of seven saves for the Lions. Junior Caitlin Lafferty (Hockessin, Del.), freshman Jessica Veazey (Middletown, Del.) and Feret combined to turn aside four shots for the Griffins. Overall, Molloy owned a 21-19 edge in shots and an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks,
