VALENTINE TABBED ECC ROOKIE OF THE YEAR; FOUR LIONS PICKED TO ALL-ECC SECOND-TEAM
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y – The East Coast Conference released its yearly awards on Monday morning, and Molloy College freshman forward Nicole Valentine earned rookie of the year recognition for her outstanding novice campaign. The Lions also had four members of their 2009 team named to the All-ECC second-team. These honorees included junior midfielder Dianna Geneva, junior defender Laura McNamara, graduate goalkeeper Christina Aquilon, and Valentine.

WOMEN’S SOCCER SUFFERS 2-1 LOSS IN SEASON FINALE AT NYIT
OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. - Trailing 2-0 with 12-plus minutes remaining in regulation, junior midfielder Dianna Geneva got her second tally of the season for the Molloy College women's soccer team to trim the deficit to one. But, the Lions were unable to complete the rally as they fell at New York Institute of Technology by a 2-1 decision on Saturday at President's Stadium in Old Westbury, N.Y. With the defeat, Molloy capped its year with an overall mark of 6-10 and an East Coast Conference record of 3-4.

WOMEN’S SOCCER TAKES DOWN PACE ON SENIOR NIGHT, 2-0
ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – On Monday evening, senior back Kate-Lynn Muir capped off her last home game at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex in Rockville Centre, N.Y. with the second of Molloy College’s two goals as the Lions’ women’s soccer team beat the Setters of Pace University by a 2-0 score. The unassisted tally, which was Muir’s second of the season, was scored in the 57th-minute. With the victory, the Lions improved to 6-9 on the year, while the Setters fell to 1-16-1.

MEN’S AND WOMEN’S SOCCER GAMES WASHED OUT
NYACK, N.Y. – Due to inclement weather, today’s women’s soccer contest between the Lions of Molloy College and the Warriors of Nyack College has been postponed. No make-up date has been announced yet. Meanwhile, Tuesday's scheduled men’s soccer game at Caldwell College was cancelled, and will not be played.

WOMEN’S SOCCER FALLS TO DOWLING IN DOUBLE-OVERTIME HEARTBREAKER, 2-1
BROOKHAVEN, N.Y. – On Wednesday evening, the Molloy College women’s soccer team lost in the 102nd-minute of action as Dowling College senior forward Vanessa Moreira kicked a rebound in the rear of the net for her second tally of the game, which handed the Golden Lions a 2-1 double-overtime victory at Golden Lions Field in Brookhaven, N.Y. With the win, Dowling improved to 11-3-1 on the year and 5-1 in the East Coast Conference. As for Molloy, it went to 5-9 and 3-3 against league opposition.

MUIR TAKES HOME ECC PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS FOR GAME-WINNING GOAL
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. – The East Coast Conference announced its weekly awards on Monday, and Molloy College women’s soccer senior defender Kate-Lynn Muir received player of the week accolades for her heroic play this past Saturday in a 3-2 double-overtime victory against 12th-ranked University of Bridgeport. In the 101st-minute, she found the top right corner of the goal to clinch a win for the Lions.

WOMEN’S SOCCER UPSETS NO. 12 BRIDGEPORT IN DOUBLE-OVERTIME THRILLER, 3-2
ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Senior defender Kate-Lynn Muir notched the game-winning goal in the 102nd-minute for the Molloy College women’s soccer team to push the Lions past the 12th-ranked Purple Knights of University of Bridgeport in double overtime by a 3-2 decision on Saturday at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex in Rockville Centre, N.Y. On the play, Muir kicked a 35-yarder into the lower left corner of the netting on an unassisted effort.

WOMEN’S SOCCER SUFFERS THIRD OVERTIME LOSS OF SEASON TO QUEENS, 3-2
FLUSHING, N.Y. – Tied at 2-2 in the extra session, Queens College freshman forward Brittany Silipo scored to lead the Knights past the Molloy College women’s soccer team by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday afternoon at the Queens Soccer Field in Flushing, N.Y. Silipo, who earned her seventh goal of the season, got the tally off of a feed from freshman defender/midfielder Sarah Boucher. The Lions are now 4-8 overall and 2-2 in East Coast Conference action.

WOMEN’S SOCCER CAPS HOMESTAND WITH 2-0 LOSS TO C.W. POST
ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – The Molloy College women’s soccer team was defeated on Wednesday night as C.W. Post won by a 2-0 count at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex in Rockville Centre, N.Y. The Lions’ defense was able to hold off the Pioneers’ scoring attack throughout the first half, but the guests found the back of the net in the second half. With the win, C.W. Post improved to 7-3-1 overall and 2-0 in East Coast Conference play. As for Molloy, it fell to an overall record of 4-7 and a league mark of 2-1.

BALANCED OFFENSE LEADS WOMEN’S SOCCER PAST MERCY, 4-1
ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – The Molloy College women’s soccer team received markers from four different players on Saturday as the Lions downed the Mavericks of Mercy College by a 4-1 decision in an East Coast Conference clash at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex in Rockville Centre, N.Y. With the result, the Lions improved to 4-6 overall and 2-0 in league play. Junior midfielder Lynn Scattaglia led the way for the hosts with three points on a goal and an assist.

AQUILON KNOCKS DOWN SIX SHOTS AS WOMEN’S SOCCER LOSES 5-0 DECISION AT POST
WATERBURY, Conn. – Graduate goalie Christina Aquilon made six saves for the Molloy College women’s soccer team, but it wasn’t enough as the Lions fell by a 5-0 count to the Eagles of Post University on Thursday at LaMoy Field in Waterbury, Conn. With the defeat, Molloy now owns a record of 3-6 on the year. As for Post, its mark is a spitting image of the visitors at 3-6 overall. Freshman forward Nicole Valentine added a game-high five shots on goal for the Lions in the loss.

WOMEN’S SOCCER OPENS 2009 ECC SLATE WITH 4-0 SHUTOUT OF STAC
ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Senior midfielder Jessica Molina earned two goals and one assist on Wednesday evening as the Molloy College women’s soccer team defeated East Coast Conference foe St. Thomas Aquinas College, 4-0, at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex in Rockville Centre, N.Y. The two tallies were Molina’s first of the season. With the win, the Lions improved to 3-5 on the year, and 1-0 in league play. As for the Spartans, they fell to 3-7 with an ECC ledger of 0-3.

WOMEN’S SOCCER ENDS ROAD TRIP WITH 3-0 LOSS AT HOLY FAMILY
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – On Thursday afternoon, the Molloy College women’s soccer team fell to Holy Family University by a final score of 3-0 in a non-conference contest at Tiger Field in Philadelphia, Pa. The Lions, who closed out their two-game road trip against their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference foe, saw three different players score for the opposition. With the result, Molloy dropped to 2-5 overall. As for Holy Family, it improved to 2-4-1 on the year.

AQUILON AND VALENTINE TAKE HOME WEEKLY ECC RECOGNITION
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. – On Monday afternoon, the East Coast Conference named Molloy College women’s soccer graduate goalkeeper Christina Aquilon and freshman forward Nicole Valentine its goalie of the week and rookie of the week, respectively. The two players’ impressive play was crucial in helping Molloy record its first two victories of the season. During the week, Aquilon totaled 17 saves, while Valentine scored her first collegiate goal.

WOMEN’S SOCCER WINS SECOND-STRAIGHT GAME AGAINST CALDWELL IN OVERTIME, 2-1
CALDWELL, N.J. – On Thursday afternoon, the Molloy College women’s soccer team recorded its second-consecutive win as it triumphed over Caldwell College, 2-1, at Caldwell Field in Caldwell, N.J. With six-plus elapsed in the extra session, freshman midfielder Kylie Barbosa placed a corner kick that junior midfielder Dianna Geneva headed in for the victory. The tally was Geneva’s first of the season.

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – The Molloy College women’s soccer team picked up its first win of the 2009 season with a 4-2 win over Concordia College at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex on Wednesday afternoon in Rockville Centre, N.Y. Freshman midfielder Kylie Barbosa and freshman forward Nicole Valentine scored their first collegiate goals in the victory for the Lions.

CHESTNUT HILL BESTS WOMEN’S SOCCER, 3-2, IN OVERTIME THRILLER
ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. - The Molloy College women’s soccer team saw its first goals of the 2009 season scored in a 3-2 overtime loss against Chestnut Hill College on Monday afternoon at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex in Rockville Centre, N.Y. Junior midfielder Tara Morey put the game-winning tally in the left corner of the net from 15 yards out with 1:44 left in overtime to seal the Griffins’ victory. Freshman forward Amanda Botbyl was credited with the assist on the play.

WOMEN’S SOCCER CLOSES OUT ROAD TRIP WITH 2-0 LOSS TO NEW HAVEN
WEST HAVEN, Conn. – On Sunday afternoon, the Molloy College women’s soccer team ran its losing skid to three games with a 2-0 defeat at the hands of the University of New Haven at Kayo Field in West Haven, Conn. The Lions have now wrapped up their road trip, and are at 0-3 overall. As for the Chargers, they improved to 2-0 on the season. Despite the loss, the Molloy defense had a strong showing as it held the New Haven offense to just seven shots on the day.

WOMEN’S SOCCER STUMBLES AGAINST NO. 11 FRANKLIN PIERCE AT SOUTHERN OWLS’ CLASSIC, 7-0
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Molloy College women’s soccer team lost to 11th-ranked Franklin Pierce University by a final score of 7-0 on Saturday afternoon at Jess Dow Field in New Haven, Conn. On Day Two of the Southern Owls’ Classic, the Lions saw their season record drop to 0-2, while the Ravens improved to a perfect mark of 2-0. Senior midfielder Gabriela Demoner scored twice for Franklin Pierce in the contest.

WOMEN’S SOCCER SUFFERS SEASON-OPENING DEFEAT AT SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT IN DOUBLE OVERTIME, 1-0
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Molloy College women’s soccer team kicked off its 2009 campaign with a bitter 1-0 double-overtime loss to Southern Connecticut State University on Thursday afternoon at Jess Dow Field in New Haven, Conn. Owls’ freshman forward Chelsea Downer recorded the game-winner in the 104th-minute. The unassisted tally scooted past a dive from Molloy graduate goalie Christina Aquilon, and was the difference on Day One of the Southern Owls’ Classic.

WOMEN’S SOCCER PICKED FOURTH IN ECC COACHES’ TALLY
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. – The Molloy College women’s soccer team was selected to end up in fourth place out of eight squads as announced by the East Coast Conference on Wednesday, and voted upon by the head coaches of the league. The Lions enter the 2009 campaign following a fifth-place finish in the ECC last season, where they recorded an overall mark of 9-8-2 and a conference ledger of 5-4. The University of Bridgeport, which took home the 2008 ECC title, was selected to re-claim the crown.

ADA NAMES ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AWARD WINNERS FOR DIVISION II
CLEVELAND, OHIO – Last week, the Athletic Directors’ Association announced its recipients of the 2008-09 Academic Achievement Award for Division II, and Molloy College had 29 of its student-athletes recognized out of a total of 4,020 across 115 institutions. In order to obtain this honor, the student-athlete had to achieve a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or better. They also needed to attend the institution for at least two years, and be a member of an intercollegiate team during his or her previous academic year.
