WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY PLACES SECOND AT ST. JOHN’S FALL INVITE

FRESH MEADOWS, N.Y. (Oct. 18, 2009) - Freshman Shannen Fuertes (Levittown, N.Y.) ran to a fifth-place showing in the 4k on Sunday with a time of 18:04.87 as the Molloy College women's cross country team came in second place at the St. John's University Invitational at Cunningham Park in Fresh Meadows, N.Y. Overall, the Lions amassed 35 points. Dominican College beat the Lions out with a 20-point total. The Chargers had four of their runners cross in the Top-10 of the race.

Coming up one minute behind Fuertes was freshman Jessica Eberhardt (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) with a seventh-place clocking of 18:05.14. Freshman Alessandra Gennarini (Farmingdale, N.Y.) crossed at 18:05.87, which was good enough for an eighth-place run. Freshman Alyssa Fuertes (Levittown, N.Y.) came in next following her mark of 18:10.63. Wrapping up the Top-5 for Molloy was sophomore Heather Mitchell (Oceanside, N.Y.) as she ripped the tape in a time of 18:22.74.

Head Coach Al Kilfoyle and the Lions return to action next Sunday when they compete in the 2009 East Coast Conference Championships at C.W. Post in Brookville, N.Y. The women's race is slated for a 10 a.m. start.
