WOMENS CROSS COUNTRY NOTCHES FIRST-EVER VICTORY AT 2009 C.W. POST INVITATIONAL

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 12, 2009) - On Saturday, the Molloy College women's cross country team made history as it won its first-ever race at the 2009 C.W. Post Invitational in Brookville, N.Y. Overall, the Lions raked 45 points in the 5k, which was seven better than St. Joseph's College. Molloy was led by exceptional showings from sophomore Alexandra Barrett (Levittown, N.Y.) and graduate Elizabeth Weiss (Oceanside, N.Y.). The pair ran to a respective seventh- and eighth-place finish on the muddy and tough Pioneer grounds.
Barrett and Weiss came in just two seconds apart. The Levittown native notched a time of 22:29.51, while the Oceanside local clocked in at a mark of 22:31.31. Freshman Alessandra Gennarini (Farmingdale, N.Y.) had a 15th-place performance after ripping the tape at 23:15.33. Placing five behind her with a clocking of 23:26.67 was freshman Jessica Eberhardt (Lindenhurst, N.Y.). Closing out the Top-5 was freshman Alyssa Fuertes (Levittown, N.Y.), who recorded a 23rd-place time of 23:55.96.
Sophomore Heather Mitchell (Oceanside, N.Y.) registered a strong run with her 32nd-place finish (25:02.42). Lastly, senior Danielle Mosca (Valley Stream, N.Y.) notched a mark of 26:18.43, which was good enough for 41st-place.
Head Coach Al Kilfoyle and the Lions return to action next Saturday when they compete in the New York Institute of Technology Invitational at Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, N.Y. The race is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
