VOLLEYBALL DROPS HEARTBREAKER TO QUEENS ON SENIOR DAY

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY- The Molloy College volleyball team dropped to the Lady Knights of Queens College in five games on October 30 at Quealy Gymnasium. The Lady Lions fall to 13-16 overall and 3-6 in the ECC, while Queens improved to 13-12 and 3-5.

Molloy started off slow as they dropped game one 30-21 but came back to take game two, 30-25. With game three tied at 17, freshman Arielle Wichard (Merrick, NY) smacked down a kill to give the Lady Lions a one point lead (18-17). However, Queens came through at the end for the 30-27 victory. Molloy jumped out to a 7-2 advantage in game four but Queens eventually tied the game at 11. The Lady Lions and the Lady Knights battled back and forth for the lead as there was 13 times the game was even. The game was even at 29 but Queens' made two back-to-back errors to give Molloy the 31-29 victory. Queens started game five with the 6-1 edge but the Lady Lions fought back and a kill by freshman Laura Haynes (Garden City, NY) cut Molloy's deficit to two (9-7). However, the Lady Lions were unable to regain the lead as they fell 15-10.

Wichard led Molloy with 11 kills, while Haynes had 10 kills. Junior Danielle Sekesan (Hicksville, NY) handed out 27 assists and freshman Kara Kerley (Wantagh, NY) passed out 20 assists. Sophomore Monika Rodziewicz (Gdansk, Poland) and senior Diann Drury (Bellmore, NY) each recorded 15 digs.

The Lady Lions will wait to see where they are seeded in the East Coast Conference Tournament. The Tournament begins on November 7.
