HAYNES RECORDS 14 KILLS AS VOLLEYBALL TAKES 3-1 VICTORY
ORANGEBURG, NY- Freshman Laura Haynes (Garden City, NY) recorded 14 kills and helped guide the Molloy College volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over the Chargers of Dominican College on October 22. The non-conference victory improves the Lady Lions overall record to 12-13, while Dominican falls to 5-13.
Molloy held a 13-8 lead in game one but the Chargers went on a 14-0 run to grab an 11 point edge (22-13). However, the Lady Lions fought back and a kill by freshman Kara Kerley (Wantagh, NY) evened the score at 26. Molloy stayed focus and came away with a 32-30 game one victory and took game two, 30-20.
Dominican forced a game four when they held onto a 30-28 game three victory. The Chargers jumped out to a 10-4 advantage during game four but freshman Arielle Wichard's (Merrick, NY) kill cut Molloy's deficit to four (25-21). The Lady Lions went on to outscore the Chargers, 9-1, and took the 30-28 game four victory.
Haynes led the Lady Lions with 14 kills, while Wichard pitched in with 11 kills. Senior Angela Barra (East Meadow, NY) added 10 kills. Sophomore Monika Rodziewicz (Gdansk, Poland) recorded 17 digs and senior Diann Drury (Bellmore, NY) had 10 digs and nine kills. Junior Danielle Sekesan (Hicksville, NY) and Kerley each handed out 21 assists.
The Lady Lions will travel to C.W. Post on October 23 for a 7:00 PM ECC game.
