VOLLEYBALL COMES FROM BEHIND TO TAKE ECC VICTORY OVER NYIT

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY- The Molloy College volleyball team came from behind in game five to take a 3-2 ECC victory over the Bears of NYIT on October 16 at Quealy Gymnasium. The Lady Lions improve their overall record to 11-12 and their conference record to 2-3, while the Bears dropped to 5-12 and 2-3.

NYIT squeaked by Molloy in game one, 30-27 but the Lady Lions evened the match at one game apiece when they took game two, 30-25. Molloy saw themselves with a 13-9 lead in game three. However, the Bears came back and tied the game at 19. A kill by sophomore Catherine Chave (Stony Brook, NY) put the Lady Lions back in the lead (20-19) and Molloy would not look back as they grabbed the game, 30-23.

Molloy held a 16-11 advantage in game four in game four but the Bears went on to score the next eight points and took the 18-16 edge. The Lady Lions would cut their deficit to one (23-22) but NYIT held onto the lead and the game four victory (30-25). The Bears jumped out to an 11-3 lead in game five. However, the Lady Lions fought back and went on a 11-3 run to even the score at 14. The Bears were unable to connect on their next two attempts and the Lady Lions held onto the 16-14 victory.

Freshman Arielle Wichard (Merrick, NY) led the Lady Lions with 15 kills and 21 digs. Freshman Laura Haynes (Garden City, NY) added 11 kills and senior Diann Drury (Bellmore, NY) contributed 10 kills. Sophomore Monika Rodziewicz (Gdansk, Poland) had 17 digs. Junior Danielle Sekesan (Hicksville, NY) passed out 26 assists and had 14 digs, while freshman Kara Kerley (Wantagh, NY) handed out 24 assists and had 11 digs.

The Lady Lions will host Adelphi University on October 18 for a 7:00 PM East Coast Conference game.
