WOMEN’S SOCCER CAPS HOMESTAND WITH 2-0 LOSS TO C.W. POST

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Oct. 7, 2009) - The Molloy College women's soccer team was defeated on Wednesday night as C.W. Post won by a 2-0 count at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex in Rockville Centre, N.Y. The Lions' defense was able to hold off the Pioneers' scoring attack throughout the first half, but the guests found the back of the net in the second half. With the win, C.W. Post improved to 7-3-1 overall and 2-0 in East Coast Conference play. As for Molloy, it fell to an overall record of 4-7 and a league mark of 2-1.

As aforementioned, both teams went into halftime with the game scoreless. That quickly changed in the second half when C.W. Post sophomore midfielder Tove Eriksson (Helsingborg, Sweden) earned a corner kick in the 53rd-minute, and placed it inside the left post for the first goal of the game. The Pioneers tacked on an insurance marker in the 80th-minute when senior forward Melissa Pascarella (Sayville, N.Y.) popped one over Lions' senior goalkeeper Paula Sanelli (Medford, N.Y.) to make the score 2-0. Senior midfielder Lindsey Nick (Hauppauge, N.Y.) was credited with the assist.

Sanelli recorded a game-high three saves on the day, while C.W. Post sophomore netminder Allie Weiser (Grand Island, N.Y.) recorded the shutout with no saves. The guests outshot the hosts, 12-1, and also had the advantage in corner kicks (6-0). Freshman forward Nicole Valentine (Massapequa, N.Y.) had the lone shot for the Lions. Pascarella, Eriksson and junior midfielder Qaroline Nahl (Kumla, Sweden) each had two shots on goal for C.W. Post.

Head Coach Danny Longo and his squad return to the field on Tuesday when Molloy travels to Queens College for a conference battle against the rival Knights. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m.
