Box Score vs. Queens - October 13, 2009
FLUSHING, N.Y. (Oct. 13, 2009) - Tied at 2-2 in the extra session, Queens College freshman forward Brittany Silipo (Bay Shore, N.Y.) scored to lead the Knights past the Molloy College women's soccer team by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday afternoon at the Queens Soccer Field in Flushing, N.Y. Silipo, who earned her seventh goal of the season, got the tally off of a feed from freshman defender/midfielder Sarah Boucher (Oceanside, N.Y.). The Lions are now 4-8 overall and 2-2 in East Coast Conference action.
The Knights (7-4-1, 2-2 ECC) opened up the scoring in the 29th-minute when sophomore midfielder Katherine Colon (West Babylon, N.Y.) received a through ball on the right wing, and kicked a shot past Lions' graduate keeper Christina Aquilon (Whitestone, N.Y.) for the lone marker of the half. Junior forward Andrea Slavin (Floral Park, N.Y.) was credited with the assist on the play. Five minutes into the second stanza, Slavin took a penalty kick, and soon extended the Queens lead to a pair (2-0).
The Lions reached the board with 67:38 elapsed as senior forward Paula Sanelli (Medford, N.Y.) placed a ball off of a re-start by Queens freshman goalie Allison Breakey (Frankfort, Ill.). Later on, with 1:55 left, freshman defender Alyssa Faller (Floral Park, N.Y.) took a penalty kick of her own, and locked the score up. The game soon saw its conclusion as Silipo found the back of the mesh with 3:11 remaining in the first overtime period. Between the pipes, Aquilon made a game-high 12 saves, while Breakey turned aside four shots.
Head Coach Danny Longo and his squad return to action this Saturday when Molloy comes back home to host ECC foe University of Bridgeport at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex in Rockville Centre, N.Y.
