AQUILON KNOCKS DOWN SIX SHOTS AS WOMEN’S SOCCER LOSES 5-0 DECISION AT POST

WATERBURY, Conn. (Oct. 1, 2009) - Graduate goalie Christina Aquilon (Whitestone, N.Y.) made six saves for the Molloy College women's soccer team, but it wasn't enough as the Lions fell by a 5-0 count to the Eagles of Post University on Thursday at LaMoy Field in Waterbury, Conn. With the defeat, Molloy now owns a record of 3-6 on the year. As for Post, its mark is a spitting image of the visitors at 3-6 overall. Freshman forward Nicole Valentine (Massapequa, N.Y.) added a game-high five shots on goal for the Lions in the loss.

The hosts wasted no time getting to work as sophomore midfielder Megan Hansen (Newtown, Conn.) notched a goal on a penalty kick just 1:27 into the half. Eight minutes later, forward Aeishia Baldwin put the lead at 2-0 as she found the back of the net off of a deflection. The Eagles eventually went into the intermission ahead by the same score. During the latter stanza, junior forward Rachel Shivers (Vernon, Conn.) scored in the 59th-minute. On the play, she put back a shot by freshman midfielder Sara Cramer (Lake Hiawatha, N.J.).

As just over 12 minutes left read on the clock, freshman forward Sabrina Sinopoli (Watertown, Conn.) scored one of her two markers on the day. She headed a shot off a corner kick taken by freshman midfielder Brianna Docimo (Shrewsbury, Mass.). Sinopoli then capped off the scoring in the 83rd-minute when she broke down the left wing of the field and put a shot past Aquilon for a 5-0 advantage. Sinopoli came out with a team-best seven shots on the afternoon. Shivers added six shots.

While Aquilon made six saves, junior goalkeeper Elizabeth Johnson (Norwich, Conn.) turned aside a game-high 12 shots for Post. Overall, the Lions held a 24-22 margin in shots, while the Eagles owned a 6-4 edge in corner kicks. Post was also thrice called offsides.

Head Coach Danny Longo and his squad return to the field this Saturday when Molloy opens up a two-game homestand in Rockville Centre, N.Y. against East Coast Conference nemesis Mercy College.
