WOMEN’S SOCCER TAKES DOWN PACE ON SENIOR NIGHT, 2-0

Box Score vs. Pace - October 26, 2009

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Oct. 26, 2009) - On Monday evening, senior back Kate-Lynn Muir (Westbury, N.Y.) capped off her last home game at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex in Rockville Centre, N.Y. with the second of Molloy College's two goals as the Lions' women's soccer team beat the Setters of Pace University by a 2-0 score. The unassisted tally, which was Muir's second of the season, was scored in the 57th-minute. With the victory, the Lions improved to 6-9 on the year, while the Setters fell to 1-16-1.

In a game that showcased all of Molloy's players for its final home game of the 2009-10 season, it was the defenders that put the Lions on the scoreboard. In the 20th-minute of play, freshman back Alyssa Faller (Floral Park, N.Y.) scored her third marker of the season. It came off of a turnover, which she turned into a breakaway, and banked off the post that ricocheted into the net.

The two squads went into halftime with Molloy ahead by one. Eleven minutes into the second half, Muir notched the insurance goal off her own rebound that the Westbury native punched into an open net.

In addition to Muir, Molloy also honored its two other seniors: midfielder Jessica Molina (Bayside Hills, N.Y.) and forward Paula Sanelli (Medford, N.Y.). In goal, graduate netminder Christina Aquilon (Whitestone, N.Y.) recorded two saves on the night. As for Pace, freshman goalie Courtany Hagen (New Paltz, N.Y.) stopped a game-high six shots. Molloy out-shot its opponent 11-9, while Pace had the edge in corner kicks, 5-2.

Head Coach Danny Longo and the Lions close out the regular season this Saturday when they travel to Old Westbury, N.Y. to battle the Bears of New York Institute of Technology in an East Coast Conference duel. Kickoff is slated for noon.
