Box Score vs. NYIT - October 31, 2009
OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Oct. 31, 2009) - Trailing 2-0 with 12-plus minutes remaining in regulation, junior midfielder Dianna Geneva (Hicksville, N.Y.) got her second tally of the season for the Molloy College women's soccer team to trim the deficit to one. But, the Lions were unable to complete the rally as they fell at New York Institute of Technology by a 2-1 decision on Saturday at President's Stadium in Old Westbury, N.Y. With the defeat, Molloy capped its year with an overall mark of 6-10 and an East Coast Conference record of 3-4.
NYIT opened the scoring in the 32nd-minute when freshman forward Heather Kasper (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) kicked a 15-yard shot into the back of the net off of a through ball from senior defender Meghan Squigna (Bethpage, N.Y.). Three minutes later, the Bears (7-10, 3-4 ECC) made it 2-0. This time, Kasper fed the ball to sophomore forward Ally Halbig (Babylon, N.Y.), who notched her seventh goal of the season. NYIT managed to head into the intermission ahead by the same margin.
Although Rivas cut the shortfall in half in the latter stanza, the Lions were not able to get on the board again. In net, graduate goalie Christina Aquilon (Whitestone, N.Y.) stopped three shots in her final decision in a Molloy uniform. Her counterpart, sophomore Kathryn Miller (Doylestown, Pa.) made four saves for the Bears, who took seven shots on the day along with the opposition. Molloy also owned an 11-4 margin in corner kicks.
