WOMEN’S SOCCER GETS BLANKED BY ST. MICHAEL’S, 3-0

COLCHESTER, Vt. (Aug. 30, 2008) - On Saturday afternoon, the Molloy College women's soccer team lost a 3-0 decision to St. Michael's College at Doc Jacobs Field in Colchester, Vt. The match was also a part of Day Two of the 2008 DoubleTree Kickoff Classic. With the loss, the Lions fall to 0-2 on the year. As for the Knights, they improve to a perfect 2-0.

St. Michael's opened up the scoring with a pair of goals over a period of 1:02 to grab hold of a 2-0 lead. Freshman midfielder Teal Bryan (North Yarmouth, Maine) tallied her third marker of the season in the 32nd-minute off a feed from freshman forward Laura Ostrout (Northfield, Vt.), who struck for her second goal of 2008 one minute later. Sophomore Jenn Senecal (Yarmouth, Maine) was credited with the assist.

The Knights, who out-shot the Lions by a count of 14-6, extended their advantage to 3-0 in the 78th-minute when senior midfielder Sky Bryan (North Yarmouth, Maine) kicked a ball into the back of the net on a penalty shot.

Senior keepers Christina Aquilon (Queens, N.Y.) and Paula Sanelli (Longwood, N.Y.) played 45 minutes apiece and combined to turn aside a game-high four shots for Molloy. Freshman goalkeeper Ashleigh Adams (Milton, Vt.) made one save for St. Michael's.

Sophomore midfielder Joanna Taylor (Seaford, N.Y.) attempted a team-high three shots for the Lions, while Bryan took three shots as well for the Knights - two of which were on goal. Senecal and senior defender Kelley Boyden (Jericho, Vt.) added two shots each.

Head Coach Danny Longo and his squad return to action this Friday when they face Saint Anselm College in their home opener at John A. Darcy Field. Kick-off is slated for 4 p.m.
