TAYLOR’S 63RD-MINUTE TALLY LEADS WOMEN’S SOCCER PAST ST. ANSELM, 1-0

Box Score vs. St. Anselm - September 5, 2008

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Sept. 5, 2008) - Senior defender/midfielder Joanna Taylor (Seaford, N.Y.) registered the eventual game-winning goal in the 63rd-minute on Friday afternoon to push the Molloy College women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over St. Anselm College at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex in Rockville Centre, N.Y. The contest was also the home opener for the Lions, who improve to 1-2 with the victory.

On the play, Taylor received a short pass, proceeded to dribble the ball, and then spun around the defender to give herself a breakaway. She followed with a shot that went right past the diving Hawks' (1-1) senior goaltender Micaela Smith (Andover, Mass.) and into the lower-right corner of the netting for a 1-0 lead.

St. Anselm held a 14-6 margin in shots and a 3-0 edge in corner kicks but was unable to capitalize on the chances they had inside the offensive zone. In goal, Smith made three saves on the day, while Molloy senior goalkeeper Christina Aquilon (Queens, N.Y.) turned aside a game-high eight shots.

Head Coach Danny Longo and the Lions return to the field next Sunday when they play host to Central Athletic Collegiate Conference opponent Caldwell College. The opening kick is slated for 6 p.m.
