Box Score vs. Felician - October 9, 2008
RUTHERFORD, N.J. (Oct. 9, 2008) - Over the course of a 10-minute span in the second stanza, the Felician College women's soccer team strung together four unanswered tallies to close the door on Molloy College as the Golden Falcons beat the Lions, 5-2, on Thursday night at Tryon Field in Rutherford, N.J. With the decision, Molloy is now 4-5-1 on the season. As for Felician, it improved to 6-7 overall.
After an opening half that saw neither squad score, the Golden Falcons got things going 4:26 into the latter period when senior midfielder Jenna Krowl (Kearny, N.J.) placed a shot into the back of the net on a free kick. Seconds later, she struck again on a 30-yard attempt, which went off of Lions' senior goalkeeper Christina Aquilon's (Queens, N.Y.) fingertips to hand Felician a 2-0 advantage. Both of Krowl's goals were also on unassisted efforts.
Soon after, in the 52nd-minute, sophomore forward D.J. Jacobowitz (Staten Island, N.Y.) tallied her first of two markers in the game on a cross-pass from junior midfielder/forward Aleshia Jijon (Rochelle Park, N.J.). Eight minutes later, senior midfielder Lindsey Petry (Newton, N.J.) gave the Golden Falcons a 4-0 lead as she kicked a 15-yard shot into the goal off a through ball from sophomore midfielder Nora Selimovic (Ridgefield Park, N.J.).
Later on, in the 67th-minute, the Lions tried to spark a late comeback when sophomore forward Jennifer Roveto (Plainview, N.Y.) earned her first tally of 2008 on a pass from senior midfielder Kristie Caruso (Whitestone, N.Y.). Roveto chipped in a shot from eight yards out to put Molloy on the scoreboard. The assist was Caruso's first of the year.
Three minutes later, Jacobowitz picked up her second marker of the contest as she sent a 30-yard shot past Aquilon to end the Molloy threat. Lastly, with just over three minutes to go, senior defender/midfielder Joanna Taylor (Seaford, N.Y.) collected her team-leading fourth goal of the season off of a penalty kick.
Aquilon stopped one shot for the Lions. Senior goaltender/forward Amanda Musarra (South Amboy, N.J.) and freshman netminder Shaneil Lorenzo (Dover, N.J.) made a combined three saves for the Golden Falcons, who owned a 5-4 edge in corner kicks. Molloy held a 16-9 margin in shots. Taylor led all players with seven shots. Jacobowitz had a team-high three shots for Felician - two of which were on goal.
Head Coach Danny Longo and the Lions return to the field tomorrow when they travel to Sparkill, N.Y. to clash with East Coast Conference nemesis St. Thomas Aquinas College. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
