ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Sept. 26, 2008) - Senior goalkeeper Christina Aquilon (Queens, N.Y.) stopped a game-high nine shots on Friday, but it wasn't enough as the Molloy College women's soccer team had its five-game unbeaten streak snapped by Dowling College, 1-0, in an East Coast Conference contest at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex in Rockville Centre, N.Y. With the defeat, the Lions fell to 4-3-1 overall and 2-1 in league action.
The Golden Lions (4-2-3, 1-0-1 ECC) tallied the lone goal of the contest in the 33rd-minute when senior midfielder Stephanie Cotter (Ridge, N.Y.) sent a throw-in off a re-start into the top-right corner of the goal. She also attempted four shots in the match - three of which were on net. Junior forward Vanessa Moreira (Selden, N.Y.) led all players with five shots.
Molloy, which had six shots on the afternoon, notched just one shot on goal, which was taken by freshman forward Tove Naslund (Nykoping, Sweden). Freshman midfielder Kathleen Keegan (Queens, N.Y.), junior defender/midfielder Kate-Lynn Muir (Westbury, N.Y.), senior midfielder Kristie Caruso (Whitestone, N.Y.), senior forward Gillian Fortune (Westbury, N.Y.) and freshman forward Jacqueline Harris (Copiague, N.Y.) had one shot each as well.
Dowling sophomore netminder Alicia Commisso (Floral Park, N.Y.) made one save en route to her second shutout of the year. The Golden Lions also held a 15-6 advantage in shots and a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.
Head Coach Danny Longo and the Lions return to action next Saturday when they begin a long five-game journey on the road at nearby conference arch-rival Adelphi University. Kickoff is slated to get underway from Competition Field at 1 p.m.
