Box Score vs. Concordia (N.Y.) - September 24, 2008
BRONXVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 24, 2008) - Three different members of the Molloy College women's soccer team posted a tally on Wednesday afternoon to send the Lions to a 3-0 decision over the Clippers of Concordia College in an East Coast Conference clash at Holtdorf Field in Bronxville, N.Y. With the victory, Molloy remains unbeaten in its last five contests as they improved to 4-2-1 overall and 2-0 in league play. As for Concordia, it dropped to 3-3 and 0-1 in the ECC.
Senior defender/midfielder Joanna Taylor (Seaford, N.Y.) got things going in the 31st-minute as she received a high cross from senior forward Gillian Fortune (Westbury, N.Y.). She then sent it into the back of the goal via a header shot for her team-leading third goal of the season. Soon after, freshman forward Ashley Kilcommons (Baldwin, N.Y.) extended the Lions' lead to two when she scored on an unassisted effort for her first-ever collegiate tally.
Junior defender/midfielder Kate-Lynn Muir (Westbury, N.Y.) capped off the scoring for Molloy in the 72nd-minute. On the play, she put a direct kick off of Clippers' junior goaltender/defender Aileen Alvear's (Woodhaven, N.Y.) hands and into the netting. Aside from yielding the three goals, Alvear made a game-high eight saves on the day.
Lions' senior goalkeeper Christina Aquilon (Queens, N.Y.) stopped three shots and earned her fifth shutout of the year in the process. In the game, Molloy owned a 14-7 margin in shots and a 3-1 edge in corner kicks. Senior midfielder Kristie Caruso (Whitestone, N.Y.) and sophomore midfielder Charlotte Laurie (Huntington, N.Y.) contributed two shots apiece for the Lions.
Head Coach Danny Longo and his squad return to action this Friday when they head home to the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex to do battle with conference rival Dowling College. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m.
