UNASSISTED GOALS SEND NO. 3 C.W. POST TO 2-0 WIN OVER WOMEN'S SOCCER

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 25, 2008) - In a game that featured playoff implications for the Molloy College women's soccer team, the Lions fell to the third-ranked Pioneers of C.W. Post by a 2-0 score on Saturday at Robert Blitz Field in Brookville, N.Y. With the defeat, Molloy went to 6-7-2 and 4-4 in East Coast Conference action. As for C.W. Post, it is now 12-1 overall and 5-0 against league opposition.

19 minutes into the opening stanza, senior forward Maria Sonnerborg (Bjarred, Sweden) got C.W. Post onto the scoreboard first with her 15th goal of the season on an unassisted effort. She put a bouncing shot from five yards out off of Molloy junior netminder Paula Sanelli (Longwood, N.Y.) and into the back of the net.

The Pioneers notched their other tally in the second half. Freshman defender/midfielder Tove Eriksson (Helsingborg, Sweden) sent a 10-yard shot from the close left wing into the top shelf. On the day, she and sophomore midfielder/forward Ivana Babic (Haninge, Sweden) collected a pair of shots each. Sonnerborg attempted a game-high four shots - three of which were on goal.

For the Lions, freshman forward Tove Naslund (Nykoping, Sweden), senior defender/midfielder Corene Norniella (Garden City, N.Y.) and sophomore midfielder Charlotte Laurie (Huntington, N.Y.) registered one shot apiece. In net, Sanelli and Norniella combined to stop a game-high six shots. C.W. Post freshman goalkeeper Allie Weiser (Grand Island, N.Y.) made two saves.

Head Coach Danny Longo and his squad return to action this Monday when Molloy plays its final regular season road game in Philadelphia, Pa. at Chestnut Hill College. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m.
