GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (Oct. 4, 2008) - Senior goalkeeper Christina Aquilon (Queens, N.Y.) stopped a game-high five shots on Saturday afternoon, but it wasn't enough as the Molloy College women's soccer team lost its second-consecutive East Coast Conference contest to Adelphi University by a final score of 1-0 at Competition Field in Garden City, N.Y.
The lone goal of the match came in the 53rd-minute when Panthers' (7-3-1, 2-1-1 ECC) sophomore midfielder/forward Brianne McDonnell (Commack, N.Y.) scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season off a feed from senior midfielder/forward Lauren Slattery (Nashua, N.H.). For Slattery, she was credited with her fifth assist of the year.
Although they did not reach the scoreboard, senior defender/midfielder Corene Norniella (Garden City, N.Y.) led the Lions (4-4-1, 2-2 ECC) with two shots. Senior defender/midfielder Joanna Taylor (Seaford, N.Y.), senior forward Gillian Fortune (Westbury, N.Y.) and sophomore midfielder Dianna Geneva (Hicksville, N.Y.) registered one shot apiece.
Freshman goaltender Dorothy Connolly (Bethpage, N.Y.) turned aside two shots for Adelphi, which held a 19-5 advantage in shots and a 3-1 edge in corner kicks. McDonnell tallied six shots, while junior forward Caitlin Morrison (Beacon, N.Y.) and senior forward Erin Klimkowski (Westbury, N.Y.) attempted three shots each. Junior midfielder Amanda Popoli (South Salem, N.Y.) contributed two shots - both of which were on net.
Head Coach Danny Longo and his squad return to action this Thursday when Molloy travels to Lodi, N.J. to take on Central Athletic Collegiate Conference opponent Felician College. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
