ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY- Junior Joanna Taylor (Seaford, NY) recorded a hat trick in the 5-0 Molloy College women's soccer victory over the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College on October 9 at the John A. Darcy Field. The Lady Lions improve to 5-8-1 overall and 3-4 in conference play, while the Spartans drop to 3-11 and 1-5.
Despite getting off 14 shots in the first half, the Lady Lions were unable to find the back of STAC's net and the game remained scoreless at halftime. However, Molloy broke the silence in the 51st minute when Taylor scored her first goal of the game. Three minutes later, junior Gillian Fortune (Westbury, NY) netted a goal off a pass by Taylor to give the Lady Lions a 2-0 lead. Taylor gave Molloy a 4-0 advantage after she scored back-to-back goals during the 62nd and 64th minutes. Freshman Jennifer Roveto (Plainview, NY) netted her first collegiate goal at the 81:33 minute mark and increased Molloy's edge to five. Junior Christina Aquilon (Queens, NY) made one save in the game, while Jeannette Gibson recorded 13 saves for STAC.
The Lady Lions return to action when they travel to Felician on October 11 for a 3:00 PM non-conference game.
