COLCHESTER, VT- The Molloy College women's soccer team began the 2007 season with a tie against Merrimack College in the Double Tree Kick-Off Classic hosted by St. Michael's College on August 25.
Sophomore Paula Sanelli (Longwood, NY) assisted on junior Gillian Fortune's (Westbury, NY) goal as 25 minutes ticked off the clock and gave the Lady Lions a 1-0 lead. Molloy still held the 1-0 edge with less than 10 minutes left in the game but play was halted due to lightning. Once play resumed, the Lady Lions surrendered a goal to Merrimack and the game was tied at one. The game was stopped with 3:58 left in regulation and ended in a 1-1 tie due to thunder and lightning. Junior Christina Aquilon (Queens, NY) notched nine saves in net for the Lady Lions. For Merrimack, Shannon Rowan recorded five saves.
Molloy will play their second game in the Double Tree Kick-Off Classic against host, St. Michael's College on Sunday, August 26. Game time is scheduled for 12:00 PM.
