BOVE AND NEMBHARD RETURN FROM “A JOURNEY OF SELF-DISCOVERY”

ORLANDO, Fla. – From May 24-27, sophomore Jackie Bove and sophomore Lincoln Nembhard of the respective Molloy College women’s and men’s lacrosse teams went to the 2009 National Collegiate Athletic Association Student-Athlete Development Convention in Orlando, Fla. The convention, which was themed as “A Journey of Self-Discovery”, turned out to be quite an experience for both student-athletes.



CHESAPEAKE BEACH, Md. – The rosters were recently publicized for the 2009 Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association/Under Armour Division II North-South Senior All-Star Game, which will take place on Saturday, June 13 at the United Sports Training Center in Downingtown, Pa. Picked to lead the 16-member North side is fourth-year Head Coach Tom Campolettano from Molloy College. Joining him on the sideline is rival Adelphi University Head Coach Joe Spallina.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – This past week, the National Collegiate Athletic Association announced junior midfielder Kristie Sosnowski of the Molloy College women’s lacrosse team as the 2009 NCAA Division II Statistical Champion for draw controls. She receives this prestigious accolade following a campaign that saw her post an average of 8.43 draws per game. Sosnowski also registered 38 points in the process off 31 goals and seven assists to go with her 41 ground balls.

CHESAPEAKE BEACH, Md. – The Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association announced the honorees for its Division II All-Region teams, and three players from Molloy College landed on the second team in the North Region. Those Lions who took home praise were senior defender Kelly LaClair in addition to junior attacker Rebecca LaFlare and junior midfielder Kristie Sosnowski.

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. – The East Coast Conference recently handed out its year-end awards for women’s lacrosse, and three players from Molloy College nabbed recognition. Sophomore midfielder Kristie Sosnowski and senior defender Kelly LaClair each took home first-team kudos. Junior attacker Rebecca LaFlare garnered All-ECC distinction as well after being placed on the second-team.

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Junior midfielder Kristie Sosnowski and junior attacker Rebecca LaFlare notched three points apiece on Saturday afternoon, but it did not get the job done as the Molloy College women’s lacrosse team suffered a 19-7 defeat at the hands of No. 1 ranked Adelphi University at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex in Rockville Centre, N.Y. Sosnowski raked a goal and two assists, while LaFlare scored a team-best three tallies.

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – On Thursday afternoon, junior attacker Rebecca LaFlare and sophomore attacker Maria Varricchio paced the Lions to an 18-14 victory over the Greyhounds by scoring two goals each and assisting on two others in a game played at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex in Rockville Centre, N.Y. They joined junior midfielder Kristie Sosnowski, sophomore midfielder Hayley Lacey and senior attacker Erin Brady in registering the two marks in the game.

Post registered a 17-goal streak in the opening stanza to pace the match for a 22-9 victory in its favor against the Molloy College women’s lacrosse team at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex in Rockville Centre, N.Y. With the defeat, the Lions dropped to 6-8 overall and 1-2 in East Coast Conference play. They have also lost two straight. As for the Pioneers, they have raked 13 straight wins to go to 13-1 overall. C.W. Post is also 3-0 in league action.

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Junior attacker Rebecca LaFlare checked in with a hat trick on Sunday, but it wasn’t enough as the Molloy College women’s lacrosse team fell by a 19-8 score to 10th-ranked University of New Haven at Kayo Field in West Haven, Conn. With the defeat, the Lions snapped a two-game winning streak, and fell to an overall record of 6-7. As for the Chargers, they ran their winning streak to three games, and improved to 12-3 on the year.

HILLBURN, N.Y. – Sophomore attacker Maria Varricchio posted a game-best seven points off of four assists and three goals to send the Molloy College women’s lacrosse team past St. Thomas Aquinas College, 18-9, in an East Coast Conference match-up at the Torne Valley Sports Complex on Tuesday afternoon in Hillburn, N.Y. Varricchio also caused two turnovers and picked up one ground ball in the Lions’ second consecutive victory.

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Junior attacker Rebecca LaFlare scored a game-high five goals on Friday afternoon to send the Molloy College women’s lacrosse team past Philadelphia University by a 17-9 score at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex in Rockville Centre, N.Y. She also collected eight shots and one draw control, while senior goaltender Alicia Frisch made 12 saves between the pipes to snap a three-game losing streak for the Lions.
