PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Mar. 21, 2009) - Senior attacker Erin Brady (Long Beach, N.Y.) found love in the city of brotherly love on Saturday afternoon as she registered seven points on three goals and four assists to lead the Molloy College women’s lacrosse team in a 24-10 rout of Holy Family University at Tiger Field in Philadelphia, Pa. With the win, the Lions ended a three-game losing streak, and improved to 3-3 overall.
The offensive onslaught from the Lions came roaring from the start. In the first half, Molloy outshot Holy Family (0-5), 26-18, en route to 13 first half goals. The Lions jumped out to a 3-0 lead early in the half as freshman attacker/midfielder Gina Sepe (Deer Park, N.Y.) assisted on goals by senior midfielder Kristin Lang (Hicksville, N.Y.) and junior attacker Lori Sollitto (Wantagh, N.Y.).
Following a Tigers' goal from sophomore midfielder Jennifer James (Philadelphia, Pa.), Molloy rattled off four unanswered tallies before Holy Family found the net again. Brady got the streak started with an unassisted goal. She then found junior attacker Rebecca LaFlare (Lindenhurst, N.Y.), who tallied her 100th-career goal with 1:21 left to go, and sophomore midfielder Hayley Lacey (Levittown, N.Y.) to bring the score to 6-1.
The final tally in the run came off the stick of Sepe, her
second of the game. Brady found the goal once more and assisted on
two other scores. Senior midfielder Mary Beth Ahern
(Massapequa, N.Y.) marked twice in the remainder of the
first half.
The second half saw the Lions torrid offense continue to overwhelm
Holy Family as Molloy outscored the opposition 11-3 in the second
half. Brady mirrored her first half play by tallying another score
to open the frame for the Lions. That was the start of an 8-0
scoring output, which squelched any hopes of a Holy Family
comeback.
Following Brady’s score, LaFlare found the goal twice in a span of less than two minutes to increase Molloy’s lead to 16-7. Lang and Lacey each scored in the middle of this production and then Sollitto, freshman midfielder Emily Antonette (Seaford, N.Y.) and sophomore attacker Maria Varriccchio (Massapequa, N.Y.) all chipped in with unassisted goals to make the advantage 21-7 in favor of the Lions.
Sepe and Ahern finished out the scoring for Molloy as Sepe gave the Lions a 23-10 lead and Ahern scored twice in the final 9 minutes to give Molloy a 24-10 victory.
Aside from scoring, Antonette dominated play in the middle
winning 10 draw controls, and even contributed four ground balls.
Senior defender Kelly LaClair
(Lindenhurst, N.Y.) also came out the victor on four draw
controls and even earned a ground ball. Between the net, senior
goalkeeper Alicia Frisch (Lindenhurst, N.Y.)
earned her third win of the season.
Head Coach Tom Campolettano and the Lions will return to action on
March 28 when they travel to Ann Arundel, Md. for a non-conference
match-up against Pfeiffer University. The opening draw is scheduled
for 11 a.m.
