ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Mar. 7, 2009) – Sophomore attacker Maria Varricchio (Massapequa, N.Y.) and junior midfielder Kristie Sosnowski (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) combined for six goals to power the Molloy College women’s lacrosse team past Chestnut Hill College, 21-8, on Saturday afternoon at the Dean G. The Lions came out on fire by scoring four goals in the first three minutes of the game. In the second minute of play, the Lions added two more tallies as freshman attacker/midfielder Gina Sepe (Deer Park, N.Y.) made her first career start a good one as she scored at the 28:27 mark. Lang picked up her second assist. The fourth goal in the opening three minutes came from sophomore midfielder Hayley Lacey (Levittown, N.Y.).

Following a Chestnut Hill goal by junior attacker Maryanne Glass (Baltimore, Md.), Molloy picked up three more goals to give them a 7-1 lead. Brady, Sepe and Sosnowski accounted for the scoring. Varricchio and sophomore midfielder Kristina Luparello (Massapequa, N.Y.) each scored two more goals in the half as the Lions held a 13-4 advantage heading into the break.

The second half was more of the same for Molloy as Varricchio added a goal and two assists in the period. Junior attacker Lori Sollitto (Wantagh, N.Y.) chipped in with two goals and freshman attacker Krystin Shand (Massapequa, N.Y.) added two markers of her own.

As a team, the Lions were successful on 17-of-19 (89.5 percent) clear attempts in the game, including a perfect 8-of-8 in the second half. Sosnowski continued her domination on draw controls as she won seven of them. Freshman midfielder Emily Antonette (Seaford, N.Y.) contributed to the victory with a goal, an assist and three ground balls. In the cage, senior goaltender Alicia Frisch (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) stopped five shots and got the win in the decision.
