Box Score vs. Adelphi - April 25, 2009
ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Apr. 25, 2009) –
Junior midfielder Kristie Sosnowski (Massapequa Park,
N.Y.) and junior attacker Rebecca LaFlare
(Lindenhurst, N.Y.) notched three points apiece on
Saturday afternoon, but it did not get the job done as the Molloy
College women’s lacrosse team suffered a 19-7 defeat at the
hands of No. 1 ranked Adelphi University at the Dean G. Skelos
Sports Complex in Rockville Centre, N.Y. Sosnowski raked a goal and
two assists, while LaFlare scored a team-best three tallies.
Tied at 2-up with 21-plus minutes to go in the first half, the
Panthers (14-0, 2-0 ECC) ran off seven unanswered markers in a
10-minute stint to grab a 9-2 lead with 8:08 left. Senior attacker
Rachel Ray (Rocky Point, N.Y.) amassed two goals
and one assist in the streak. Sophomore attacker Michelle
Ceraso (Massapequa, N.Y.) notched two goals. Sophomore
midfielder Kaitlyn Carter (Mineola, N.Y.)
contributed a goal and an assist. Junior midfielder Vanessa
Sotcheff (Rocky Point, N.Y.) began the run with a goal on
a feed from Ray.
Adelphi eventually headed into the break ahead 11-4. It kicked off
the latter half with four goals in a row to take a 15-4 advantage
nine minutes in. Ray had one goal and two assists in the run.
Freshman midfielder Marissa Mills (Islip, N.Y.)
and freshman attacker Erica Devito (Shoreham,
N.Y.) struck the back of the net off of the assists.
Molloy (7-9, 1-3 ECC) responded by posting two of the next three
goals to cut the shortfall to 16-6. Sosnowski and junior attacker
Lori Sollitto (Wantagh, N.Y.) accounted for the
scoring.
During the last 11 minutes, the Panthers raked three more goals,
while the Lions had one to cap the match-up with a final of 19-7.
Junior midfielder Corinne Pingitore (Jackson,
N.J.) kicked off the burst. Carter followed by finding the
back of the netting. Ray got the assist. Junior attacker
Alyssa LaBosco (Massapequa, N.Y.) ended things off
with a score at the 2:23 mark. For Molloy, Sollitto had the lone
goal off a feed from senior defender Kelly LaClair
(Lindenhurst, N.Y.) with 9:05 remaining in regulation.
Sosnowski had five draws, four ground balls and one caused
turnover. Sollitto and senior attacker Erin Brady (Long
Beach, N.Y.) notched two points each. Sollitto also
totaled one ground ball and one caused turnover. LaClair notched
three caused turnovers, three ground balls, two draw controls and
one assist. Sophomore midfielder Hayley Lacey (Levittown,
N.Y.) chipped in with three ground balls and a pair of
draws.
For Adelphi, Ray amassed eight points on three goals and five
assists. She also registered two draw controls and two ground
balls. Carter and Devito posted four points apiece on three goals
and one assist. Devito also picked up a pair of ground balls.
Ceraso finished with four goals. Pingitore registered a pair of
tallies. Junior attacker Danielle Kafarski (Port Jefferson
Station, N.Y.) amassed a goal and an assist.
The Panthers owned a 38-26 advantage in shots and a 30-24 edge in
ground balls, while the Lions sported a 15-12 margin in draws. On
clears, Adelphi was successful on 23-of-26 (88.5 percent), while
Molloy earned a clear percentage of 69.6 (16-of-23). Inside eight
meters, the Panthers tallied four goals, while the Lions got one
score.
Head Coach Tom Campolettano and the Lions closed out the 2009
campaign with an overall record of 7-9 and an East Coast Conference
ledger of 1-3. They will return again in the Spring of 2010. Please
