GRAND LAKE, Colo. (Aug. 24, 2009) - On Sunday evening, the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches' Association presented Academic Squad accolades to nine Division II schools, and Molloy College was one of those selected. In order to qualify for the honor, the team must have raked a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or greater. West Chester University, Gannon University and Belmont Abbey College respectively had the three highest averages, which had them tabbed as IWLCA Merit Squads for 2009.
The Lions closed out the 2009 campaign with an overall record of 7-9 and an East Coast Conference mark of 1-3. Junior attacker Rebecca LaFlare (Lindenhurst, N.Y.), who was the team's leading scorer, amassed 57 points on 47 goals and 10 assists. As a result, she won All-ECC and IWLCA All-North Region second-team honors. Junior midfielder Kristie Sosnowski (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) was named the NCAA Division II statistical champion for draw controls per game in addition to garnering kudos from the ECC and IWLCA.
