LACLAIR, LAFLARE AND SOSNOWSKI PLACED ON IWLCA ALL-NORTH REGION SECOND-TEAM

2009 IWLCA All-North Region Team

CHESAPEAKE BEACH, Md. (May. 22, 2009) - The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association announced the honorees for its Division II All-Region teams, and three players from Molloy College landed on the second team in the North Region. Those Lions who took home praise were senior defender Kelly LaClair (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) in addition to junior attacker Rebecca LaFlare (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) and junior midfielder Kristie Sosnowski (Massapequa Park, N.Y.).

During her senior season, LaClair registered 44 draw controls and 38 ground balls - both of which slotted her second on the team in those categories. LaClair was also ranked 33rd amongst NCAA Division II in draws per ­game at an average of 2.6. In addition, from the offensive third of the field, she tallied four points on a marker and three assists. LaClair, who was named to the All-East Coast Conference first-team, caused a team-best 15 turnovers (0.94 per contest).

LaFlare, who was an All-ECC second-team selection, found herself at the top of the Molloy leader board in several offensive categories. Overall, in 2009, she led the Lions with 57 points off of 47 goals, which were a team-high, and 10 assists. LaFlare also attempted 102 shots (77 SOG) to go with 15 ground balls. Moreover, she was ranked 42nd in goals, 45th in the country in goals per game (2.75) and 68th in total points. Concerning the East Coast Conference, LaFlare checked in at sixth in shot average (6.00) and ninth in goal average.

An All-ECC first-teamer, Sosnowski had a great impact in the midfield as she was the national statistical champion in draw controls per game at an average of 8.43 (130 DC). Sosnowski also finished in the Top-100 in the country in ground balls (2.79) and goals per game (2.0) after positioning herself at No. 40 and No. 96 in those categories, respectively. Furthermore, she accumulated 38 points on 31 goals and seven assists, while raking 13 caused turnovers in the process.

Head Coach Tom Campolettano and the Lions ended the 2009 season with an overall ledger of 7-9, including a 4-3 record at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex. They also posted a fourth-place finish (1-3) in the East Coast Conference.
