SOSNOWSKI AND LACLAIR SELECTED TO ALL-ECC FIRST-TEAM; LAFLARE EARNS SECOND-TEAM HONORS

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (May. 11, 2009) - The East Coast Conference recently handed out its year-end awards for women's lacrosse, and three players from Molloy College nabbed recognition. Sophomore midfielder Kristie Sosnowski (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) and senior defender Kelly LaClair (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) each took home first-team kudos. Junior attacker Rebecca LaFlare (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) garnered All-ECC distinction as well after being placed on the second-team.
In 2009, Sosnowski finished fourth on the team in scoring with 38 points off of 31 goals and seven assists. She also picked up 130 draw controls and 41 ground balls, while causing 13 turnovers. In addition, Sosnowski ranks atop the country in draw controls per match with an average of 8.43. She is also 40th in ground balls per contest (2.79) and 96th in goals per game (2.0). Amongst the league, Sosnowski is the leader in draws per contest, and is 10th in goals and shots per game (5.36).
For LaClair, this marks her third trip to the all-conference squad, and second on the first-team. From the defensive third, she assisted the Lions in holding the opposition to 13.85 goals per game. Overall, LaClair had 44 draw controls, 38 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers on the year. She also notched four points (1 G, 3 A) in the process. Furthermore, LaClair is positioned at No. 32 in the nation in draws per game with an average of 2.6. She is also slotted fifth in that same category in the East Coast Conference.
LaFlare closed out the season as the leading scorer for Molloy. She registered 57 points on 47 goals and 10 assists. LaFlare also attempted 102 shots (77 SOG), while accumulating 15 ground balls and 10 draw controls. In NCAA Division II, she is ranked in the Top-70 in three different statistical categories - No. 42 in goals, No. 44 in goals per game (2.75) and No. 67 in points. Pertaining to the ECC, LaFlare is sixth in shots per game (6.00), ninth in goals per game and tied for 10th in points per game (3.38).
