WARGO AND LAFLARE EACH NET FIVE TO LEAD WOMEN’S LACROSSE TO VICTORY OVER STAC

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY- Sophomores Kristina Wargo (Hicksville, NY) and Rebecca LaFlare (Lindenhurst, NY) each netted five goals to lead the Molloy College women's lacrosse team to a 19-9 victory over the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College on April 16.  The East Coast Conference win improves the Lady Lions to 8-4 overall and 2-3 in the conference, while the Spartans fall to 4-8 and 0-6.

LaFlare helped Molloy grab a 6-0 advantage after she notched three goals during the first 14 minutes of play.  Three minutes later, St. Thomas Aquinas scored their first goal but sophomore Kristie Sosnowski (Massapequa Park, NY) placed two between the pipes and freshman Maria Varricchio (Massapequa, NY) added one to give the Lady Lions the 9-1 lead.  The Spartans had two more goals in the first half and Molloy headed into halftime with the 9-3 edge.

St. Thomas Aquinas cut their deficit to four (9-5) in the first four minutes of the second.  However, the Lady Lions scored four straight goals to go ahead by eight (13-5) as 22 minutes remained in the game.  Molloy's defense held the Spartans to only four more goals, while the offense recorded six goals to take the 19-9 victory.  Juniors Alicia Frisch (Lindenhurst, NY) and Carmen Sanfilippo (Hicksville, NY), along with freshman Jackie Bove (North Massapequa, NY) combined for 12 saves in net.

On April 18, the Lady Lions will travel to Bentley College for a 4:00 PM non-conference game.
