DOLNICK HELPS TEAM USA TO GOLD MEDAL AT 2009 MACCABIAH GAMES

TEL AVIV, ISRAEL (Jul. 27, 2009) - Freshman Courtney Dolnick (Weston, Fla.), who will be playing for the Molloy College women's basketball team in 2009-10, assisted in leading the United States Junior Basketball squad to a gold medal at the 2009 Maccabiah Games last Tuesday in Tel Aviv, Israel. The Americans took the top prize following a 68-44 win versus the host Israelis. The two teams met a day earlier in a qualifying round with Team USA coming out on top again, 72-54.
The United States also downed Great Britain (85-15), Canada (78-35) and Australia (68-44) by large margins to get to the gold medal contest. Overall, in the Maccabiah Games, there were 68 countries represented and a total of 7,000 participants. They are also the third-largest sporting event to the Olympics and the Pan-American Games. In addition, this event is supported by Maccabi USA/Sports, which is a volunteer organization that looks to enrich the lives of Jewish youth in the United States, Israel and the Diaspora through several programs.
Dolnick will kick off her collegiate career when the Lions open up the season on November 17 at home versus Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference nemesis Wilmington University. Action is scheduled to get underway from Quealy Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
