WOODBERRY RECEIVES NASSAU COUNTY SPORTS COMMISSION FEMALE COLLEGE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR AWARD

MANHASSET, N.Y. (Mar. 30, 2009) - The Nassau County Sports Commission recently announced the winner of its award for 2008-09 Female College Athlete of the Year, and junior forward Kymira Woodberry (Boston, Mass.) was named the recipient of the honor. She will be recognized, and presented with the accolade at a "Salute to Champions" Dinner on Monday, April 27 at the Chateau Briand in Garden City, N.Y.

This marks the second straight year that a student-athlete from Molloy College received this type of honor. For 2007-08, former men's soccer standout Russ Francome (Hendon, England) was tabbed as the NCSC Male College Athlete of the Year. Other well-known personalities that will get awards at the dinner are Jay Fiedler, who was formerly with the National Football League's Miami Dolphins and New York Jets, and Ed Westfall, who retired from the National Hockey League after playing for 18 seasons.

During the 2008-09 campaign, Woodberry averaged a double-double with 17.6 points and 12.1 rebounds per game. She also shot 50.1 percent (189-for-377) from the field. Amongst the national rankings, Woodberry was positioned fourth in rebounds per game, 48th in points per game, 57th in field-goal percentage and 89th in steals per game (2.5). In the East Coast Conference, she found herself the Top-5 in five statistical categories.

In addition, Woodberry picked up her 1,000th career point in a 69-66 double-overtime victory against Le Moyne College on December 29. Following three years of play, she has registered 1,376 points thus far, which ranks her eighth on the all-time career scoring list at Molloy. Woodberry will need 356 points in her final season to surpass Donna Lohrey, who totaled 1,731 points from 2002-06, for first place.

Head Coach Tim O'Hagan and the Lions closed out the year with a program-best overall record of 21-7 and an East Coast Conference mark of 14-4. Molloy will return back to the court in November of 2008. Please check back to http://athletics.molloy.edu for more information.
