WOMEN’S BASKETBALL ENDS SEASON WITH A LOSS TO HOLY FAMILY IN THE FIRST ROUND OF THE NCAA DIVISION II CHAMPIONSHIP

PHILADELPHIA, PA- Sophomore Kymira Woodberry (Boston, MA) pulled down a double-double but it would not be enough as the Molloy College women's basketball were defeated by the Tigers of Holy Family University on March 14 in the first round of the NCAA Division II Championship. The Lady Lions end their season with a 19-12 overall record, while the Tigers (31-0) advance to the second round where they will face Assumption College on March 15.

Molloy opened the game with an 8-0 run and they held the Tigers scoreless for the first five minutes of play. However, over the next five minutes, Holy Family outscored Molloy, 12-3 and grabbed their first lead of the game (12-11). The Lady Lions and the Tigers battled for control of the game for the next ten minutes as neither team took more than a four point lead. Sophomore C.J. Jones' (Boston, MA) basket with 24 seconds left in the half tied the game and each team headed into the locker room with 27 points.

Holy Family began the second with a 14-2 run and grabbed a 41-29 edge as 11:45 remained in the game. Woodberry, who scored eight of the Lady Lions second half points, converted a three point play to bring Molloy back to within eight (47-30) with just over five minutes of play. Holy Family kept the Lady Lions off the scoreboard for the final minutes as they held onto the 54-39 game.

Woodberry led all players with18 points and 12 rebounds, while sophomore E.J. Dreyer (Floral Park, NY) had four points and eight rebounds.
