WOODBERRY NOTCHES CAREER HIGH 32 POINTS IN 93-78 WIN OVER NYIT
OLD WESTBURY, NY- Sophomore Kymira Woodberry (Boston, MA) scored a career high 32 points to help guide the Molloy College women's basketball team to a 93-78 conference victory over the Bears of NYIT on March 1. With the win, the Lady Lions finish in second place in the East Coast Conference (16-11 overall; 14-6 ECC), while the Bears take tenth place in the conference (7-20; 5-15).
The Lady Lions opened the game with a 9-0 run. Midway through the first, a jumper by sophomore C.J. Jones (Boston, MA) extended Molloy's lead to 11 (20-9). NYIT answered with a 5-0 run over the next minute to cut their deficit to six (20-14). However, junior Katelyn Dunn's (Bethpage, NY) lay-up with 6:11 left in the half gave the Lady Lions a 13 point edge (31-18). In the final minutes, the Bears made it a six point game (33-27) but Molloy headed into intermission with an 11 points cushion (46-35).
Two minutes into the second half, Woodberry's jumper put the Lady Lions ahead by 18 (53-35). NYIT fought back and held the 57-49 disadvantage as 11:48 remained on the clock. Molloy brought their edge back to 11 (70-59), but with 5:52 left on the scoreboard, the Bears brought their deficit to seven (70-63). However, the Lady Lions did not let NYIT come any closer as Molloy came away with the conference victory.
Woodberry led all players with 32 points as she added six rebounds. Senior Randi Bender (North Bellmore, NY) pitched in with 23 points and sophomore E.J. Dreyer (Floral Park, NY) posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
The Lady Lions will take on #7 STAC on Wednesday, March 6 in the first round of the ECC play-offs. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
