WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TAKES A VICTORY ON SENIOR NIGHT

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY- The Molloy College women's basketball team defeated the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College on February 27. Seniors Randi Bender (North Bellmore, NY) and Kelly Quackenbush (Westbury, NY) each scored during their senior night at Quealy Gymnasium. The Lady Lions improve their records to 15-11 overall and 13-6 in the ECC, while the Spartans drop to 9-17 and 8-11.

Sophomore E.J. Dreyer (Floral Park, NY) scored the first two points of the game. Four minutes into the game, Molloy went ahead by five points (11-6) after a jumper by sophomore Kymira Woodberry (Boston, MA). A three pointer by STAC's Claire Wilson evened the score at 12 with 13:26 left in the first. However, Bender's jumper sparked a 13-2 run and the Lady Lions took the 25-15 edge. The Spartans brought their deficit to six (29-23) but Molloy went into the locker room at halftime with a ten point cushion (35-25).

Molloy opened the second half strong and brought their advantage to 22 (50-28) after eight minutes of play in the second. The momentum for the remainder of the game was in the hands of Molloy as they never let STAC come any closer than 11 points. In the end, the Lady Lions came away with the 71-58 conference victory.

Woodberry led all players with 27 points, 10 rebounds and four steals. Sophomore C.J. Jones (Boston, MA) pitched in with 13 points and five rebounds, while Bender finished the night with 11 points.

The Lady Lions will travel to NYIT on Saturday, March 1 for their last regular season game. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
