BENDER KNOCKS DOWN SIX THREE POINTERS TO LEAD WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TO A 73-57 VICTORY OVER CONCORDIA

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY- Senior Randi Bender (North Bellmore, NY) put away six three pointers and led all scorers with 24 to guide the Molloy College women's basketball team to a conference victory over the Clippers of Concordia College on February 20 at Quealy Gymnasium. The 73-57 win improves the Lady Lions to 14-11 overall and 12-6 in the East Coast Conference, while Concordia slips to 2-23 and 1-17.

Concordia began the scoring and held a 7-2 lead after four minutes of play. Molloy answered back with a 6-0 run and grabbed their first advantage of the game (8-7). With 11:06 left in the half, the Clippers held a six point edge (14-8) but two free throws by sophomore Kymira Woodberry (Boston, MA) and a three pointer by Bender brought the Lady Lions back to within one (14-13). Molloy went ahead (18-16) off a basket from behind the arc by Bender and the Lady Lions would hold the advantage for the rest of the first (33-31).

Molloy opened the second half with a three point play and a trifecta by senior Kelly Quackenbush (Westbury, NY) and the Lady Lions took a 39-31 lead. Concordia fought back and cut their deficit to three (39-36). However, Molloy scored seven straight points and gained a 46-36 edge with 15:36 left in the game. As 7:37 remained on the clock, freshman Brittany Jones (Elmont, NY) drained a three pointer and gave the Lady Lions their biggest lead of the game (23 points). Molloy held off the Clippers for the remainder of the game as they came away with the 73-57 victory.

Woodberry finished the game with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while sophomore Lisa Abitante (Brooklyn, NY) had nine points and five assists. Sophomore E.J. Dreyer (Floral Park, NY) pitched in with seven rebounds, five points, three assists, three blocks and two steals, while Quackenbush ended the game with nine points and six rebounds.

The Lady Lions will hold their senior day on Wednesday, February 27 as they take on St. Thomas Aquinas College at 5:00 PM in Quealy Gymnasium.
