WOMEN’S BASKETBALL HOLDS ONTO 52-47 VICTORY OVER QUEENS

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY- Sophomore E.J. Dreyer (Floral Park, NY) tied her career high of eight steals and helped the Molloy College women's basketball team to a 52-47 victory over the Lady Knights of Queens College on February 13 at Quealy Gymnasium. The East Coast Conference win improves Molloy's overall record to 12-11 and their conference record to 10-6, while Queens falls to 11-11 and 9-6.

Molloy and Queens traded baskets in the first nine minutes of the game with neither team taking more than a two point advantage. A lay-up by sophomore Kymira Woodberry (Boston, MA) sparked a 7-0 run for the Lady Lions and Molloy held the 19-12 lead with 5:30 left in the half. Queens stopped their run as they knocked down four straight free throws to make it a three point game (19-16). Molloy held their advantage for the remainder of the half and entered the locker room with a 29-26 cushion.

Two minutes into the second half, Queens grabbed the lead (31-30) off a lay-up by Jessica Sanchez. Both teams battled for the advantage but Molloy took a six point edge (45-39) after a lay-up by Dreyer as 8:21 remained in the game. Two minutes later, Woodberry extended the Lady Lions lead to eight (49-41). Queens cut their deficit to four (49-45) with 3:26 ticks left. The game would remain scoreless for the next 3:13 until junior Katelyn Dunn (Bethpage, NY) sealed the Molloy victory with three of four free throws in the final seconds.

Woodberry led the Lady Lions with 15 points, 14 rebounds and four steals. Dreyer pitched in with seven points, seven rebounds, four assists and eight steals. Senior Randi Bender (North Bellmore, NY) added 13 points and sophomore Lisa Abitante (Brooklyn, NY) had notched eight points.
