WOMENS BASKETBALL UPENDS ADELPHI
ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY- Sophomore Kymira Woodberry (Boston, MA) recorded a double-double as the Molloy College women's basketball team defeated the Panthers of Adelphi University on January 26. The Lady Lions notched their seventh straight victory to increase their overall record 8-9 and their ECC record to 7-4, while the Panthers fall to 8-10 and 6-5.
Adelphi held the lead for the first four minutes of the game but a lay-up by sophomore E.J. Dreyer (Floral Park, NY) gave Molloy their first advantage of the game (11-10). Sophomore Katelyn Dunn's (Bethpage, NY) lay-up sparked a 12-2 run for the Lady Lions as they went ahead by nine points (23-14) with 7:25 left on the clock. Molloy controlled the rest of the first half and headed into intermission with the 31-23 edge.
Three and a half minutes into the second half, sophomore C.J. Jones' (Boston, MA) three pointer extended the Lady Lions lead to ten (37-27). Molloy kept their distance from the Panthers and pulled away by 15 points after a lay-up by sophomore Lisa Abitante (Brooklyn, NY) as 8:52 remained on the clock. With 3:11 left in the game, Molloy took their biggest lead of the game (17 points) and the Lady Lions went on to take the East Coast Conference game, 58-43.
Woodberry led the Lady Lions with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Dunn and senior Randi Bender (North Bellmore, NY) each had 10 points, while Dunn added seven rebounds, four assists and three steals. Dreyer and Abitante each contributed eight points during the game.
The Lady Lions will travel to Dowling College on Wednesday, January 30 for a 5:00 PM ECC game.
