WOMEN’S BASKETBALL SOARS PAST CONCORDIA

BRONXVILLE, NY- Four Lady Lions scored in double digits as the Molloy College women's basketball team defeated the Clippers of Concordia College on January 14. The 86-59 East Coast Conference victory improves the Lady Lions to 5-9 overall and 4-4 in the ECC, while the Clippers drop to 0-12 and 0-8.

Molloy set the tempo of the game by opening the game with a 10-2 run that began with a three pointer by senior Randi Bender (North Bellmore, NY). Concordia cut their deficit to three (10-7) but the Lady Lions scored 12 straight points to grab the 22-7 lead with 10:46 left in the half. A lay-up by sophomore C.J. Jones (Boston, MA) gave Molloy their biggest advantage (21 points) of the first half. The Clippers chipped away at their disadvantage but the Lady Lions still entered the locker room with the 40-27 halftime edge.

Eight minutes into the second half, Molloy held the 64-38 edge. Bender's lay-up at the 9:14 minute mark gave the Lady Lions their biggest lead (28 points) of the game and they would not look back as they took the 86-59 conference victory.

Bender led all scorers with 23 points. Sophomore Kymira Woodberry (Boston, MA) grabbed a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while she added three assists and four steals. Sophomore E.J. Dreyer (Floral Park, NY) recorded seven steals and contributed 10 points. Sophomore Tatiana Lopez (Lakeview, NY) pitched in with 10 points.

Molloy will travel to St. Thomas Aquinas College on Saturday, January 19 for a 1:00 PM ECC game.
