FOUR LADY LIONS SCORE IN DOUBLE DIGITS AS WOMENS BASKETBALL PICKS UP WIN OVER QUEENS
FLUSHING, NY- Four Lady Lions scored in double digits as the Molloy College women's basketball team defeated the Lady Knights of Queens College, 79-59, on January 5. The Lady Lions increase their overall record to 3-9 and their league record to 2-4, while Queens falls to 3-9 and 1-4.
Back-to-back baskets by sophomore E.J. Dreyer (Floral Park, NY) gave the Lady Lions the early 11-3 lead. At the midpoint of the first half, Molloy held a nine point advantage (17-8) after a jumper by junior Betsy Bordes (Elmont, NY). With four minutes left in the half, Queens cut their deficit to six (26-20) but the Lady Lions entered the locker room at halftime with the 35-26 edge. Molloy opened the second half with a 10-0 run to increase their lead to 19 points (45-26). The Lady Lions would hold their distance for the remainder of the game to take the 79-59 conference victory.
Sophomore Kymira Woodberry (Boston, MA) led all players with 18 points, while Dreyer pulled down a double-double with 11 points and a career high 11 rebounds. Senior Randi Bender (North Bellmore, NY) pitched in with 16 points and sophomore C.J. Jones (Boston, MA) contributed 10 points.
The Lady Lions return home to host Mercy College on Wednesday, January 9 at 5:00 PM.
