PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Apr. 14, 2009) –
Freshman pitcher Allison Ryan (Seaford, N.Y.)
threw a complete game in the second contest of a doubleheader on
Monday as the Molloy College softball team won one of two versus
Philadelphia University at Bucky Harris Field in Philadelphia, Pa.
The Rams took the opener by a 6-1 decision, while the Lions notched
a 5-3 win in the nightcap behind Ryan’s showing. With the
split, Molloy went to 14-18 overall. As for Philadelphia, it is now
17-14 on the year.
Game One –
Philadelphia 6, Molloy 1
The Rams reached the scoreboard first in Bottom-3 with a
three-spot. Junior outfielder Kristyn Loughery
(Phoenixville, Pa.) and sophomore outfielder Jen
Richard (Millstone Township, N.J.) slapped back-to-back
RBI doubles. Freshman second baseman/outfielder Danielle
Parisi (Teaneck, N.J.) added the other run on an RBI
groundout, which scored Richard. The Lions got one run back in the
top of the fourth inning when freshman infielder Meghan
Karpinski (Bethpage, N.Y.) batted an RBI single.
One inning later, Parisi ripped a three-run homer to grab hold of
a 6-1 advantage. Freshman pitcher Alexandra Schmidt
(Cordova, Md.) won the decision after tossing seven
innings of three-hit, two-walk, one-run ball. She also fanned 11
batters. Sophomore pitcher Lauren Urbont (Long Beach,
N.Y.) took her 11th loss of the year. In six innings of
work, she gave up seven hits, six runs and three walks, while
striking out four.
Game Two –
Molloy 5, Philadelphia 3
Trailing 3-0 at the end of three, Molloy notched five runs in two
of the last four innings. Senior second baseman Michelle
Walsh (Bellerose, N.Y.) belted a solo shot in the top of
the fifth. One inning after, the Lions posted a big offensive
showing. Sophomore outfielder Brittney Tartaro (Bayport,
N.Y.) notched a one-out RBI double.
Two batters later, sophomore outfielder Jennifer Kiernan
(Sayville, N.Y.) had an RBI groundout. Walsh and sophomore
first baseman Alexandra Sydor (Glen Cove, N.Y.)
followed with successful RBI opportunities.
Philadelphia got their scoring in the first two innings. Freshman
utility Sara Romano (Harrisburg, Pa.) raked a
one-out sacrifice fly to right field in Top-1. Then, in the second,
Richard sent a single through the left side for a pair of RBI.
Rams’ freshman pitcher Amber Beauchemin (Galloway,
N.J.) fell to 3-3 after allowing four hits, three runs and
three walks, while fanning one. Ryan improved to 9-7 on the year
with her complete game.
Head Coach Susan Cassidy-Lyke and the Lions return to the field
tomorrow when they continue a four-game road swing in Brookhaven,
N.Y. at East Coast Conference foe Dowling College. First pitch for
Game One is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
