Box Score vs. Dowling - May 2, 2009
OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (May. 2, 2009) – On
Saturday afternoon, the Molloy College softball team had its season
come to an end as the fifth-seeded Lions lost to the fourth-seeded
Golden Lions of Dowling College in the East Coast Conference
Tournament by a final product of 5-2 at the NYIT Sport Complex in
Old Westbury, N.Y. With the defeat, the Lions wrapped up the year
with an overall mark of 21-26. As for the Golden Lions, they
improved their record to 33-17.
For the second day in a row, Molloy jumped out in front early.
Senior shortstop Nicole Losito (Howard Beach,
N.Y.) belted a two-run homer beyond the left-field wall,
which scored freshman first baseman Carla Campagna (Floral
Park, N.Y.), who led off the top of the second inning with
a single to right-center field. Dowling answered in Bottom-4 with a
three-run bomb by freshman catcher Emily Slack (East Islip,
N.Y.). That handed the Golden Lions a 3-2 advantage, and
they never looked back from that point.
During the latter of the sixth, Dowling recorded a pair of
insurance runs to extend its lead to 5-2. Slack anchored the effort
yet again as she ripped a two-run double over the third base bag.
Junior utility Kristina DeMeo (Bay Shore, N.Y.)
and senior catcher Jackie Hannan (Sayville, N.Y.)
came around to score.
Senior pitcher Stephanie Plochochi (Sayville,
N.Y.) earned the victory for the Golden Lions. She tossed
seven innings of six-hit, two-run ball. Plochochi also struck out
four, and did not walk a single batter in the process. As for the
Lions, sophomore hurler Lauren Urbont (Long Beach,
N.Y.) took the defeat. She gave up six hits, five runs and
one walk, while fanning a pair in six innings of work.
This concludes the 2009 campaign for the Molloy softball team. The
Lions will return in the Spring of 2010. Please continue to check
