BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Apr. 23, 2009) - Freshm­an third baseman Josette Cavallaro (North Babylon, N.Y.) was a solid 3-for-4 at the plate in the opener with a run on Thursday, while batting a solo bomb in the nightcap to lead the Molloy College softball team to a stunning twin bill sweep of 14th-ranked C.W. Post by decisions of 5-4 and 1-0 in Brookville, N.Y. To this date, Cavallaro is hitting a Lions'-best .385 average with five home runs and 30 RBI. She also owns a .615 slugging and a .431 on-base percentage thus far.

Game One - Molloy 5, C.W. Post 4

Molloy (17-23, 7-7 ECC) got on the board first in Top-2 on an RBI single to left by junior outfielder Erin Rut (East Meadow, N.Y.). But, C.W. Post (28-14, 12-4 ECC) responded with two runs in its half of the inning to grab its first lead. Senior third baseman Megan Correia (Seekonk, Mass.) accounted for the scoring with a two-run shot beyond the left-field fence. The Lions tied it up though in the top of the fourth on an RBI groundout by sophomore outfielder Shannon Skeggs (Massapequa, N.Y.).

In Top-5, Molloy grabbed its second lead with a two-out, three-run effort, which made the score 5-2. Freshman first baseman Carla Campagna (Floral Park, N.Y.) raked a two-run home run, while freshman utility Meghan Karpinski (Bethpage, N.Y.) pushed across an RBI single into right. C.W. Post tried to mount a comeback in the bottom of the sixth, but came up one run shy. Junior catcher/infielder Christie Softy (Floral Park, N.Y.) ripped an RBI single for one of the two runs in the stanza.

For the Lions, freshman pitcher Allison Ryan (Seaford, N.Y.) went the full seven. She surrendered eight hits, four run and three walks, while fanning three. Sophomore pitcher Christina Berardi (Raynham, Mass.) was inside the circle for the Pioneers. She threw five innings of nine-hit, five-run, three-walk, three-strikeout ball. Ryan improved to 10-10 overall with the decision, while Berardi's 2009 ledger dropped to 14-6.

Game Two - Molloy 1, C.W. Post 0

In the latter game, Molloy got the lone run in the top of the fourth when Cavallaro belted a one-out offering from C.W. Post sophomore pitcher Sarah Kiser (Cooper City, Fla.) over the right-center field wall. Kiser ended her day with seven innings of five-hit, two-walk, one-run ball. As for the Lions, sophomore pitcher Lauren Urbont (Long Beach, N.Y.) went the distance for a complete game shutout. She also struck out three. Kiser fanned eight in her performance for the Pioneers, which was a game-high.

Head Coach Susan Cassidy-Lyke and the Lions return to action tomorrow when they close out the road portion of their schedule in Bridgeport, Conn. at East Coast Conference opponent University of Bridgeport. First pitch for Game One of the double dip is scheduled for 3 p.m.
