CAVALLARO SNATCHES THIRD ECC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK AWARD

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Apr. 28, 2009) – The
East Coast Conference publicized its week-end award winners on
Monday, and freshman third baseman Josette Cavallaro (North
Babylon, N.Y.) received her third rookie of the week award
from the league. She got her other two honors on Mar. 16 and Mar.
30. In the past week, Cavallaro hit .474 with one homer and three
RBI. She also notched 14 total bases and four runs scored, while
posting a .545 on-base percentage.
In a doubleheader against 14th-ranked C.W. Post on Thursday,
Cavallaro was a combined 5-for-6 with two runs scored and one RBI.
In the process, Molloy got a clean sweep by finals of 5-4 and 1-0.
The following day, she hit 2-for-4 with one run scored and a ribbie
in the latter match of a twin bill at the University of Bridgeport.
Lastly, on Sunday, Cavallaro picked up the same (1 R, 1 RBI) in the
Lions’ season finale versus New York Institute of Technology
in Rockville Centre, N.Y.
Overall, she is batting a team-leading .377 with five home runs
and 32 RBI. She has also registered a slugging percentage of .592
and an on-base percentage of .428 so far. Amongst the ECC,
Cavallaro is slotted sixth in doubles (13), seventh in batting
average and eighth in RBI.
Head Coach Susan Cassidy-Lyke and her squad have claimed the No. 5
seed in the East Coast Conference Softball Championship. Molloy
will square off with fourth-seeded NYIT in an opening round
match-up tomorrow in Old Westbury, N.Y. First pitch is scheduled
for 3 p.m.
