CAMPAGNA TAKES HOME FIRST ECC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK AWARD

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Apr. 6, 2009) - On Monday afternoon, the East Coast Conference gave out its weekly accolades for softball, and freshman first baseman Carla Campagna (Floral Park, N.Y.) earned rookie of the week distinction from the league. For Campagna, this is her first spot of recognition from the ECC.

In eight games this past week, Campagna batted a team-best .458 with seven RBI. She also registered a .542 slugging percentage and a .519 on-base percentage. During the latter contest of a twin bill versus St. Thomas Aquinas College, Campagna went 1-for-4 with three RBI, which came off of a three-run homer to dead center field. At the Georgian Court Invitational, she was a combined 4-of-5 in two games with two ribbies and a run.

Overall, in 2009, Campagna is hitting .318 (28 H - 88 AB) with two long balls and 19 RBI. She has also raked 42 total bases and 18 runs scored so far as well as a .477 SLG% and a .406 OB%. Amongst the East Coast Conference, Campagna is tied for sixth in walks (12) and eighth in hits (28), RBI (19) and total bases (42).

Head Coach Susan Cassidy-Lyke and the Lions return to action tomorrow when they return to ECC action against the University of Bridgeport in Bridgeport, Conn. First pitch for Game One is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
