SYDOR NAMED ECC SOFTBALL ROOKIE OF THE YEAR; WALSH SELECTED TO ECC FIRST TEAM

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY- Freshman Alexandra Sydor (Glen Cove, NY) was named the 2008 East Coast Conference Rookie of the Year, while junior Michelle Walsh (Bellerose, NY) picked up ECC First Team honors at second base.  Sydor led the Lady Lions with a .400 batting average and 56 hits, while she placed second on the team with 31 RBI, 30 runs scored and a .493 slugging percentage.  In her 140 at-bats this season, Sydor recorded only four strikeouts.  In the East Coast Conference, Sydor is second in on-base percentage, fourth in batting average and ninth in RBI.  In the NCAA Division II, she is currently ranked 17th in toughest to strikeout. 

Walsh ranks first on the squad with 44 runs scored, seven triples, six homeruns and a .683 slugging percentage.  She is second with a .387 batting average, 55 hits and third with 27 RBI.  Walsh leads the East Coast Conference in triples, is second in slugging percentage and runs scored and is third in on-base percentage.  Currently, she is 12th in the NCAA Division II in triples per game.
