SOFTBALL FINISHES 2008 SEASON WITH TWO LOSSES
ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY- The Molloy College softball team ended their 2008 season with two conference losses to the Pioneers of C.W. Post on April 26. The Lady Lions finish the season with a 22-24 overall record and an 8-12 East Coast Conference record, while the Pioneers improve to 39-14 and 16-2.
The first two innings of game one remained scoreless but the Pioneers scored two runs in the third inning to take the 2-0 lead. C.W. Post added five runs during the fourth and then forced the mercy rule in the sixth inning when they notched two runs for the 9-0 game one victory. Junior Amanda Havdoglous (North Babylon, NY) took the loss as she allowed six hits, seven runs and five walks.
The Pioneers recorded runs early as they placed two on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning. However, in the bottom of the inning sophomore Tiffany D'Alessandro (Wantagh, NY) hit a homerun to left center and cut Molloy's deficit to one (2-1). C.W. Post made it a 5-1 game in the third inning. An RBI single by junior Michelle Walsh (Bellerose, NY) brought the Lady Lions to within three (5-2). In the sixth inning, the Pioneers added an insurance run and held onto the 6-2 game two victory. Havdoglous had the loss on the mound as she gave up nine hits, six runs and four walks.
