SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH DOWLING; WALSH HITS HOMERUN DURING GAME TWO

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY- On April 24, the Molloy College softball team defeated the Golden Lions of Dowling College in game one, 2-0, but would fall in game two, 11-1. With the split, the Lady Lions are now 22-22 overall and 8-10 in the ECC, while the Golden Lions are 26-24 and 8-8.
Game one remained scoreless for the first two innings of the game. During the bottom of the third inning, junior Graziella Minnici (Commack, NY) singled through the left side and knocked in sophomore Tiffany D'Alessandro (Wantagh, NY). The Lady Lions added a second run in the sixth inning when sophomore Erin Rut (East Meadow, NY) scored on an error by Dowling's right fielder. Molloy held the Golden Lions scoreless for the entire game as they came away with the 2-0 game one victory. Junior Amanda Havdoglous (North Babylon, NY) picked up the win on the mound as she threw a complete game with 10 hits, no runs, three walks and seven strikeouts.
Junior Michelle Walsh (Bellerose, NY) hit a homerun in the first inning of game two but that would be all the Lady Lions would put on the scoreboard. However, the Golden Lions recorded 11 runs over five innings to take the 11-1 game two victory. Havdoglous took the loss as she gave up seven hits, eight runs, three walks and fanned three batters.
The Lady Lions will have Senior Day on Saturday, April 26 and will host C.W. Post at 12:00 PM.
