SOFTBALL SPLITS NON-CONFERENCE DOUBLEHEADER WITH SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY- The Molloy College softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University on April 20. The Lady Lions (21-19) took game one, 4-1, while the Penmen (10-15) won game two, 5-4.
Junior Michelle Walsh (Bellerose, NY) began game one with a triple and junior Nicole Losito's single brought Walsh across the plate for the 1-0 lead. Later in the first inning, Losito scored on an error by Southern New Hampshire's third baseman and gave the Lady Lions a 2-0 advantage. The Penmen notched their lone run of game one in the second inning but Molloy answered back with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning (3-1). An RBI single by Losito during the fifth inning allowed Walsh to score the fourth run for the Lady Lions as they held onto the 4-1 win. Junior Amanda Havdoglous (North Babylon, NY) picked up her 13th victory of the season as she pitched a complete game with six hits, one run, no walks and two strikeouts.
Molloy put up the first runs of game two as freshman Allie Sydor (Glen Cove, NY) and junior Graziella Minnici (Commack, NY) each knocked in an RBI in the first inning. During the top of the second, the Penmen recorded their first run of game two. Freshman Brittney Tartaro (Bayport, NY) and sophomore Shannon Skeggs (Massapequa, NY) each crossed the plate during the bottom of the inning and Molloy extended their lead to three (4-1). However, the Penmen cut their deficit to one (4-3) when Casey Stoodley hit a two run home run to centerfield. During the sixth inning, Southern New Hampshire tied the game at four. An RBI single by Southern New Hampshire's Ashley Guertin put the Penmen ahead for good (5-4). Junior Florence Williams (Tallahassee, FL) had the loss for the Lady Lions as she allowed seven hits, four runs, one walk and three strikeouts on four innings pitched.
The Lady Lions return to ECC action when they travel to NYIT on Tuesday, April 22 for a 2:30 PM doubleheader.
